TED 613A - Social and Emotional Learning in Early Childhood Education I Units: 1
This two-part seminar uses the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework and evidenced-based social-emotional learning strategies to help candidates develop intervention/action plans to support the SEL development of children in multiple learning environments.
Prerequisites: Acceptance into the MS in Early Childhood Education Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify the core social and emotional competencies found in the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework for an early childhood educational setting.
- Conduct and write an objective observation of a young child in an educational setting.
- Use the observation results and identify the child’s social and emotional development and needs by referencing the CASEL framework.
